GARY'S BASS RIG   Gary   Stingray 5 bass   Bass rack   Bass rig   Gary's only fan?

GARY SAYS, "The only bass guitar I'll ever need..." is an Ernie Ball MUSICMAN STINGRAY-5 with an internal Aguilar preamp.  Contrary to that quote, Gary carrys a FENDER JAZZ 5-string Bass guitar for back-up and plays a 1941 KAY "doghouse" upright bass with Fishman BP-100 pick-ups for that "old-timey sound."  His processing & amplification rig consists of:

SHURE LX series diversity wireless system
KORG DTR-1 rack-mount strobe tuner
DBX 266XL dual Compressor, Limiter, Gate
SWR SM-900 Amplifier with 12ax7 tube preamp and footswitchable dual EQ
AMPEG B2R Amplifier head (back-up and rehearsal unit)
SWR Goliath III 4x10" cabinet w/horn on the bottom of the stack
SWR Goliath III Jr. 2x10" cabinet w/horn on the top of the stack

DOC'S KEYS RIG   Doc   Keyboard   Keyboard Amp

KEYBOARD #1: Korg CX-3 digital tone wheel organ
KEYBOARD #2: Roland VK-7 digital tone wheel organ
MODULE #1: Roland XV-2020
MODULE #2: Alesis Nano-piano
AMPLIFIER: KXR Fender 100 (1-15 & horn) keyboard amp

DOC SAYS, "I'm completely connected at the hip with my CX-3!!!  I believe it to be the closest thing to a real Hammond B-3 out there today.  I custom built the organ and the XV-2020 module into a wood finished case with folding legs, that gives the appearance of a chopped hammond.  One of the great features of the CX-3 is the electronic leslie effect...you will swear there's a spinning horn and baffle right behind you!  I use the XV-2020 for piano patches mainly, but it has hundreds of great instrument sounds.  The VK-7 and the Nano-Piano make a great back-up rig.  I use this combination for rehearsals and gigs with a lot of stairs (oh, my achin' back - I knew I should've taken up the harmonica!).  The Fender KXR amp has plenty of power and tone, and is easy enough to load and transport, and that's important...believe me, I know!!!"
